I’ve been absent from a post in a while, but that was because I had the best week in a long time!

Yes kids, I am employed now. In journalism! Therefore, we must doubly rejoice! By the end of the month, I’ll be working at a TV station in San Diego where I will spend most of my time writing stories for their Web site. I’ll also be writing for their newscast and working on some multimedia (hopefully)! This is even more exciting because I have yet to see an SD news site with robust multimedia offerings (other than just video, but more like interactive infographics and such) and we can take the lead. It will be awesome.

So this means I’m packing up and leaving the rainy Northwest for a golden state of mind. But the best part is that I’ll be driving away from my hometown/everything I know and a city full of the finest microbrews in a new car! I just got a 2010 KIA Soul (titanium color) and it’s been fun to drive. It’s cute (according to my grandpa) and has pretty much everything I could need (Sirius, Bluetooth and a sunroof among so many things).

It’s been a whirlwind couple weeks. They’re getting their money’s worth of me in Smoothieland. In other coolness, I’m delighted to see these videos circling my Facebook News Feed:

Now if I can only get my bracket filled out, I’ll be all set.

I love this song right now

Michelle Featherstone — Coffee and Cigarettes

I gave up coffee and cigarettes
I hate to say it hasn’t helped me yet
I thought my problems would just dissipate
And all my pain would be in yesterday

I poured my booze all down the kitchen drain
And watched my bad habits get flushed away
I thought that would keep my head on straight
And all my pain would in yesterday

But it’s true, I’m still blue
But I finally know what to do
I must quit, I must quit you

I thought that if I didn’t go and play
the sadness would get bored and go away
I thought if I didn’t go astray
That all my pain would in be in yesterday

But it’s true, I’m still blue
But I finally know what to do
I must quit, I must quit you

I sold my guitar and my piano
I thought that it was these that kept me low
I thought that if only I could try and change
That all my pain would be in yesterday

But it’s true, I’m still blue
But I finally know what to do
I must quit, I must quit you

What a simple and beautiful song.

Jay-Z Blueprint 3

The album drops on Sept. 11, but you can listen to the tracks before it comes out!

Jay-z Blueprint3

JESS3’s got it on his blog.

Normally, I’m not a huge fan of Jay-Z or r&b/rap in general, but I actually like this. I think the song’s intro is the most important real estate of the song, and he sold me.

But the same time, I’m sick of the constant “I am dripping with hos and money” message.

Regardless, my faves:
“D.O.A” (Death of Autotune)
“Run this Town” (which would be awesome in my newsroom sitcom promos, just sayin’)
“Empire State of Mind”
“On to the Next One” (it sounds kinda annoying at first and reminds me of some M.I.A. track, but it grows on you)
“Already Home” (love the strings on this track)

Tonight, as I was going through the rundowns for our 11pm newscast, I encountered the best story slug of my life.

By this time of night I’d already run out of things to write (I’m apparently quick about turning broadcast script and pressers into web stories) and decided to check the 11pm if I missed a story to prep to post on the site.

I came across a story slugged “HOE ATTACK” and I had to do a double take. “Oh my gosh,” I thought, “how can there be a story about a hoe attack?”

So I clicked into the script and uncovered pure ironic gold. It was SO hard to keep myself from lol’ing in the middle of the newsroom.

Apparently in Florida, a reporter was investigating underage strippers (this detail made the story and slug so much better) when she and her news crew were hit by grandmother wielding a garden hoe. Check out the full story from NBC Miami here. Epic.

This is some of the best and funniest footage I have ever seen. I feel REALLY bad for the photog (newfound respect for them) but he did an awesome job getting the scene while being attacked by a hoe.

I think I’m going to miss this internship.
